Bringing together Asheville’s knowledge and community

When we attend local workshops, meetings and social events it always strikes us that Asheville and surrounding area is a real honey-pot of knowledge, talent and inspiration. Whilst it is great that we have the chance to live and work in such a positive community, we recognize that not everyone is so fortunate.

Ashevillage Institute has therefore come up with a plan to help change this! We want to allow others to learn from, and experience, the fountain of knowledge on our Appalachian doorstep! Over the coming months we will be releasing details of exciting new immersion projects to be hosted by the Ashevillage Institute, in collaboration with the area’s movers n’ shakers. These will offer people from all over the country the chance to come and stay in Asheville and immerse themselves in its vibrant culture. The goal is that they then take this inspiration home, and do something with it in their own communities.

After careful consideration we have selected topics that we feel Asheville can really lend itself to, and that other communities will positively benefit from. From local food culture, to how to become a Bee City, to community placemaking, these immersions will be a great way to explore Asheville, learn from experienced locals, and take back skills and knowledge to other communities.

The aim of these immersions is to connect all of the local knowledge into an extended week-long program of activities, group strategy sessions, workshops, field trips, panels and discussions. By working together as a cohesive network, brought together by the love of one topic, we can offer a strong and unique learning experience. The mixture of teaching methods and skill-shares will enrich participants’ learning experience, surpassing knowledge found in books or online. We believe in the power of community, and in the power of action. We hope that these Ashevillage Immersions will provide others with the skills to create their own sustainable communities, while bringing together the already dynamic community of Asheville into new and exciting collaborative projects!
