AVI Internships
Hands-on experiential learning opportunities
Year round options.  3 day commitment per week.

• Permaculture
• Natural Building

You will receive:
• Season's pass to all workshops
• Rich, hands-on learning experience
• Close guidance from AVI's core team & lead instructors
• Monthly evaluation to ensure that things are working well for everyone


Internship basics:
• Average of 3 work days per week, 9am-5pm per day
• Weekly schedules will be based on project needs & everyone’s availability
• Interns mainly work on projects most related to their field of expertise, although there will be occasions when you will work in another field (ie: office manager may help with a building project once in a while and vice versa). 


Interns need to have:
• Willingness to do grunt labor
• Clear communication & maturity
• Possibility of assisting during workshops
• No smoking, toking, heavy drinking on site
• Bring your related experience to the project
• Provide your own food, lodging & transportation

Permaculture Interns - 2 positions

Work with: Permaculture maestro, Shawn Jadrnicek, as well as other members of AVI's core team.
You will be doing: Permaculture systems installation of earthworks, aquaculture, greywater, edible landscaping, food forests, chickens, bees, hydroponics, vermiculture, insect production, mushroom cultivation, perennial and annual organic gardening, harvesting, food preservation, clean up, random and other needed tasks. 
Your skills: Landscaping, gardening, stone masonry, grunt labor, design. 
Abilities: Attention to detail, eye for beauty, ecological consciousness, ability to problem solve and handle responsibility, physical fitness, maturity, flexibility, friendly personality, good attitude, clear communication



Natural Building Intern – 2 positions
Work with: Natural building maestros, Steveo Brodmerkel and Janell Kapoor, as well as other members of AVI's core team.
You will be doing
: A variety of tasks including: green retrofits, regular carpentry, building projects & detail work, material salvaging, some natural & earthen building, natural finishes, plus some permaculture projects: gardening, clean up, random and other needed tasks.
Your skills
: Carpentry, building, working with tools, grunt labor, design.
Abilities/personality
: Attention to detail, eye for beauty, ecological consciousness, ability to do grunt labor, problem solve and handle responsibility, self-initiative and capability of fulfilling role unsupervised at times, physical fitness, maturity, flexibility, friendly personality, good attitude, clear communication



Office & Marketing Intern – 1 
position
Work with: Meesh Van Sandt, Janell Kapoor and other members of AVI's core team.
You will be doing
: Office management and related tasks, marketing/promotions, graphic design, social networking, communications, editing, data entry, research, filing, etc.
Your skills
: Office management, computer skills, internet savvy, web programming, blogging, social networking, photoshop, communications, graphic design, promotions.
Abilities/personality
: Attention to detail, eye for beauty, ecological consciousness, willingness to do boring tasks, problem solve and handle responsibility, maturity, flexibility, friendly personality, good attitude, clear communication



Media & documentation Intern – 1 position
Work with: AVI’s Media Director, Meesh Van Sandt, as well as other members of AVI's core team.
You will be doing: Documentation, video documentary filmmaking including shooting & editing, still photography, graphic design, social networking, blogging
Your skills:  Perfect for film student, grad, or filmmaker wanting to make films that matter. Your skills should include beautiful shot composition, proper lighting & exposure, interview techniques, field sound recording, creative and seamless editing - picture/sound/music, your own FCP or similar editing system is essential, some graphics or animation skills are useful - Photoshop, After Effects.
