Ashevillage Sanctuary hosted, Pat McAfee from Ireland — the country’s leading stone castle restoration expert, Nick Fairplay from the UK — stone carver for Westminster Abbey, Sean Adcock from Wales — Dry Stone Walling Association of Wales, and Tomas Lipps — President of The Stone Foundation, during the 2012 Stone Foundation Symposium. Each accomplished authors and world specialists in their field, they came to share their knowledge and appreciation for their craft with 16 other presenters and participants, September 5-8th, 2012. Anacapa Brewery even created ROCKNOCKERS ALE to recognize the event. Click here to see an album of photos taken in and around Asheville. Activities included workshops on stone and plasters, presentations, and even a “Lithic Olympic Games” to celebrate the physical prowess and joy of working with stone.
The crew led two workshops at the Ashevillage site. A fine stone carving workshop with Nick, and a foundation building workshop with Pat. Special thanks to Jarad Barkheim and David Reed for their prep help, and to Joe Roberts for his tools!
