Projects
Ashevillage In Action highlights a spectrum of local sustainability projects that are already on-the-ground in Asheville. Each of the 14 projects has an important role in a sustainable community. Come find your own place within Ashevillage, and help create our resilient and long-lasting community.

Project basics - Everyone is welcome!!!
Pre-registration is NOT required, but your RSVP is appreciated to give us a sense of numbers: www.ashevillage.org/RSVP
• All ages, skill-levels, families & friends are welcome.
• Join any project for any or all of the time. Some projects
will be roaming, so if you’re late call the listed contact #.
• Kids are welcome -and- need to be with a guardian.
• All projects are rain or shine: bring rain gear if needed.
• All projects are from 10am – 5pm, unless otherwise noted.
• Lunch will be from 1 – 2pm. Bring a bagged lunch.
• Bicycling & carpooling are encouraged.

Water

Scarcity Into Abundance: Harvesting rainwater
We will mix sand, clay, and straw to construct a water catchment system, which will hold two rain barrels and a sink with counter top.

Our Beloved River: French Broad River Clean-up
Let's clean up our beautiful French Broad River, one of our town's greatest assets, and one of the three oldest river on the planet!
Where: French Broad River Park, near Amboy Rd,

Bring: Play clothes (and a change in case you get wet), no open toed shoes, water, sun hat, rain gear

Growing Abundance: Tending Asheville’s Urban Gardens
A festival of interactive urban gardening skills, from bees to backyard compost...Digging in the dirt is what we’re all about.

Natural Building: Construction with earth, sand & straw
Help construct a cob (earthen) shed in our school's garden by building walls with a mix of sand, clay, and straw.

Muddin’ It Up: Exterior earthen plaster
Come get down n’ dirty with us…Help make and apply earthen plaster using local clay, sand and straw to finish the exterior walls at the Ashevillage Institute and other natural building projects.

Green Roof: Install a living roof
Green roofs are a way to improve air quality, reduce rainwater run-off, restore bird habitat, grow food...Come install a living roof over our earthen oven, using donated plants.

Stick-it to Conservation: Energy education
Volunteers will help spread the good word of energy conservation by postering, stickering, and spreading conservation education materials through city buildings.

Shrink that Energy Bill: Weatherizing the neighborhood
Come work alongside high school students who have been trained in energy conservation, as they increase the energy efficiency and lower the power bills of homes and churches in the Burton Street neighborhood.

Protecting Our Natives: Invasive plant removal
Help protect our native plants by removing invasive exotics that are encroaching on their habitat.

Help make Asheville even more beautiful by planting trees, shrubs and flowers in the neighborhood around the Reid Community Center.

SPECIAL ABC SITE TOURS: LaZoom Rolling Theatre Tour & Ashevillage Fun-draiser

Take a fun-filled 90 minute narrated tour, visiting all the Ashevillage projects in action! Ride on the big purple biodiesel bus with entertaining and costumed tour guides...It's an ABC Fun-draiser!
Where: Tours start & end at the French Broad Food Coop at 11:30am-1pm and 2:30-4pm.
Tickets: $20 - All proceeds go to support the Ashevillage Building Convergence
